DDLJ Church Interlaken

The DDLJ Church, Interlaken, Switzerland, is the most eternal place for Shahrukh Khan and Kajol Lover. It might sound boring but I wanted to explore Interlaken as much as Yash Chopra did for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Based on the assumption that film was shot in Interlaken, I took decision that we must go and see the church which was part of that eternal movie. So we walked along streets of Interlaken and reached the church. It might sound crazy for someone, but it was dream come true for me.

Interlaken Lake Cruise

We then took train to Bern Sea from where the cruise departure point is. There were many romatic hotels in Interlaken next to the Bern Sea. The cruise took us around the Interlaken Lake and brought us back to the Bern sea. It was great experience. I have no words to describe it; therefore I had to add many pictures to support it. We could see some para-gliders flying in the sky. Unfortunately we had not planned that item in our list. There was huge cow’s statue outside the departure point. We took some pictures along with it.
After the cruise was over, we went to Interlaken Ost station.

Interlaken Switzerland and Yash Chopra

If I am not mistaken, every Indian bollywood Yash Chopra fan has dreamt of making a trip to Interlaken, Switzerland. This is most filmed country by the Indian film Industry. It attracts a lot of tourists all over the world.
We had planned our visit to Switzerland during Easter holidays for 6 days. Since there was no tourist visa required for UK Residents on work permit.
We booked BA return flight from London Heathrow to Zurich. If you are planning to go to Switzerland during Easter or summer holidays, I will advise you to book your tickets in advance. Last minutes deals to most wanted destination are always costly.
There is budget airlines airport at Basel and you can catch flights to Basel from any of the UKs budget airlines airport.

Dinner at banks of Interlaken Lake

Dinner at banks of Interlaken Lake

The hostel serves evening meals, but you need to order one in advance. The hostel has kitchen facility for guests. Since ours was budget travel we cooked noodles and ate boiled eggs. We had our dinner in the courtyard of the hostel which is at the bank of the Interlaken Lake. That was one of the most amazing budget dinner experiences we had. After the dinner was over we sat on the banks of the lake and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. We could see the train passing through the tunnel on the opposite bank of the lake. Everything was picture perfect and romantic for that given moment.

Interlaken

Interlaken Ost (east) station:

We had decided to spend the next day in Interlaken and took early morning train to Interlaken.
Interlaken Ost (East) station is Mecca for all those die hard Bollywood fans. As the most famous scene in DDLJ was shot here, when Shahrukh Khan asks Kajol whether she is willing to miss the train again? Well definitely we didn’t miss the train. Being fan of that movie we took photos over there.

Besides that we enjoyed the Interlaken Lake Cruise and visited the DDLJ Church

Golden Pass Line - Interlaken-Zwischmen-Montreux Scenic Train

Golden Pass Line - Interlaken-Zweisimmen-Montreux Scenic Train:

We had initially planned to visit Grindelwald on 4th day and then stay in the youth hostel in Interlaken at the night. We later learnt that there are very few activities to do in Grindelwald. A companion traveller at the youth hostel suggested us to take remaining lag of Golden Pass Line from Zweisimmen to Montreux. After the breakfast at the Grindelwald youth hostel, we decided to take train to Interlaken.
From Interlaken we had to take train to Zweisimmen . Ultimately we took the Golden Pass Line from Zweisimmen . The train helped us to explore the most scenic routes of Switzerland. When Montreux arrived we could see Wine plantations spread all over the mountain slopes. There was church and some old vintage homes placed beautifully between the Wine plantations.

Stay Interlaken Youth Hostel

The Interlaken Youth hostel is situated near Interlaken east station. We had to exit the station and take bus to the hostel. The bus fair is covered in the Swizz rail pass. The youth hostel was quiet a walk from the bus stop and would not recommend it for those with family or those who are used to travel by car. We checked in the hostel.

One funny incident in the Youth hostels Dormitory

I am sure it’s not part of the blog theme but would like to mention it though. We were travelling in Switzerland on the Easter weekend and so were others. Not to mention, the youth hostel was fully booked. We were put up in 16 bed dormitory. We had to catch early morning train to Jungfrau Joch, so thought of going early to the bed. But some time later the room became noisy. Fortunately or not we had some more Indians in the room. All of them were software engineers in IT Company working on some project in Germany.
They started talking in thier local language loudly when others were fast asleep. One person in the group started hunting things in his bag and had to switch on the lights. This really went on to our nerves. The reason for all the hassle was that he had forgotten to bring his towel. When he was asking his colleagues travelling along with him for solution, one person suggested that they will share his towel. Eeeeeks!!!!! What on earth can make you do that? Can’t they think of contagious diseases, bla, bla…Ultimately one of the team members found out that towels can be bought at the reception and the issue was resolved.

The tickets of the scenic train are costlier compared to the normal train routes. If you have the Swiss train passes, then you need not worry. There is another cheaper internal route of 1 and half hours to reach Interlaken from Luzern. So beware that you don’t get into the cheaper train after buying ticket of the panoramic train.
