Animal Encounter - 7
Gudi Padwa Celebrations
There was a band of Legim players who marched from the school towards the temple along with music band. The teachers and school kids, who were dressed up in various Maharashtrian traditional dress, participated in the procession. The whole idea of the procession is to create awareness of the rich Indian tradition amongst the school kids.
On the Way - 1
It used to be economic to travel by car when all four of us used to go to Pune from Mumbai.
When the Mumbai - Pune Express highway started all of us were geared up to visit Pune
Driving on the four laned express highway was a dream come true for my younger brother Manas. Even though halting is not allowed on the highway, we parked the car on road side and tried to take some pictures for few moments. The journey from Mumbai to Pune has truely become effortless and less time consuming due to this express way.
Esselworld School Trip
In fifth standard we had been to Essel world. The new charisma of theme park had struck Mumbai. It was costly deal for middle class Indians to take their entire family to the theme park and spend around Rs 600 in one day. Besides the amount no one was aware what are we going to get at the end of the day. Essel world has taken promotional concession offer for school kids and our school had planned trip to essel world for everyone. It was fun. As usual we gathered in front of my school in morning. We were made to stand in Queue according to our roll numbers. Teachers took attendance and we made our way to essel world in school buses. The huge colourful giraffes were welcoming enough. And that arouse our anxiety. However we had to wait to fill up our stomachs with the our tiffins and then enter the park. Outside food was and is still not allowed in Essel world. Everything was new and beyond our imagination. Almost everyone was new to the theme park and enjoyed their fullest.
school day trips
There is so much to write about.
The first trip I remember is my Jr KG where we had been to Picnic spot in Arrey colony in Goregaon. As usual I was given Tiffin box and waterbottle.
I don’t recollect the next one.
However when I was in 2nd standard, our school has planned picnic to national park.
It the fee was Rs 8 and I had told my mother about it.
I was barely 7 years old and learning lessons of life. I was not regular at studies and wanted to everything free of cost. No pains no gains. My aai told me that she is not going to send me to the trip and so I kept quiet. On last day of fees collection, I still reminded her about it. And she left for her office. I used to stay with in crèche in our colony. I went to my neighbour and told her that my aai has forgotten to give me the picnic fees. With help of her entered the home and collected Rs 8 change from basket where usually change was kept. I paid the fees to the teacher.
In evening around four o clock my mother came to school to pay the fees and I told her that they have already been paid. She was surprised. Rs 8 at that time are equivalent to Rs 200 today. I told her that I had picked up the change from the basket with help of aunty next door.
I had to starve that night as part of punishment for stealing money.
Lesson learnt never bank on someone else money.
The trip was good one and the most memorable one. I will never forget that trip ever in my life.
The next one I recollect was ‘Mumbai Darshan’ trip where we were taken to different places in South Mumbai. Science museum was the first stop. Next was Tara pore wala Aquarium at Marine Drive and Gate way of India. This was followed by Rani Jijamata Udyan or precisely Rani chi Baugh at Bhayculla.
